Manuel Antonio National Park

While the Manuel Antonio National Park is small, it packs a lot of beauty and nature into that small package. With many different types of animals and birds, it's clear why Manuel Antonio is a favored destination for foreigners and Costa Ricans. In addition to the wildlife, Manuel Antonio offers excellent dining, beautiful beaches and incredible ocean views.

Getting to Manuel Antonio

There are two ways to get to Manuel Antonio: drive or fly. Driving is, surprisingly, relatively easy. The whole drive from the San Jose airport only consists of a few turns - driving directions here. But the drive will take you three or more hours. Flying is only 15 minutes to Quepos, but you'll have to brave a small plane and you'll only be able to take limited luggage with you. From there, you can take a short cab ride to Manuel Antonio.

DIRECTIONS
From the Airport (Juan Santamaria International,
San Jose)

Turn left outside of the airport and follow the signs to San Ramon. Continue about 15 miles on the main highway to the Atenas exit, which will be on the right. Do not miss this exit, otherwise you will continue to San Ramon. You know you are close to the exit when you see a group of large oil storage tanks on your left. At the end of the exit ramp, turn left, cross the bridge, and follow the road through the mountain pass to Atenas, then through San Mateo, to Orotina.

About 5 minutes outside of town (Orotina), take the (almost 240 degree) turn off to Jaco / Quepos. From there continue on the highway past Jaco (do not turn right to Jaco), through Parrita, then straight to where the highway ends in Quepos (20 minutes past Parrita). You will cross a bridge into Quepos, then veer to your left onto the main street. If you do not veer left you will be driving on a dike along side the ocean. Follow the main road for about 3 blocks, and turn left immediately past the park (you should see a sign indicating the turn to Manuel Antonio). Then follow the road for 4 more blocks until you see a Soccer field on your left, here veer right on to the Manuel Antonio road. Continue below to the appropriate location.

Follow the Manuel Antonio road for about 3.5 km. You will pass a soccer field and grocery store on your left, then continue for another 300 meters where you will find Pacifico Colonial on your right.
